Lisa Cox, a Cook II at The Edge at Akers, spearheaded a special lunch at the dining hall on Feb. 26. To honor Black History Month, the meal featured foods that are good for the soul, including chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, greens with smoked turkey, bourbon salmon and more!
Student Spartan Chefs was held Feb. 18 at Brody Square.
Five teams of two students each had one hour to create and
plate their dish. Competitors from the Culinary Kitchen, Akia
Anderson and Tyler Stinchcomb, were named winners. They
created a Masa Cake with Fried Tofu, Lentils and Chocolate
Spinach Curry and a side of Green Tomato Chutney. Silver
medal winners Hailey Homoly and Camden Quenneville
represented East Neighborhood and bronze medal
winners Emma Romick and Erin O’Brian are from Brody
Neighborhood and Heritage Commons at Landon.
On Feb. 11, CS partnered with Residence Education and Housing Services and the College of Music to transform Heritage Commons at Landon into scenes from the 1920s. The dining hall featured themed venues, like the Chicago stockyards and Navy Pier, New Orleans with an emphasis on jazz and the Big Apple (New York City). Each venue had a distinct menu that fit its theme. Team members also walked around handing out hors d’oeuvres, and MSU student jazz performers were on hand to provide entertainment.
