Accessibility Statement for MSU Bakers

This is an accessibility statement from Michigan State University.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. MSU Bakers is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. Some third-party content may not be fully accessible, and we are working with providers to resolve this.

Technical Stack

This website is built using standard, accessible web technologies that support conformance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The core technologies include HTML5 for semantic structure, CSS for responsive layout and visual presentation, and JavaScript for enhanced interactivity. WAI‑ARIA attributes are used where necessary to communicate roles, states, and relationships for custom components and dynamic content when native HTML semantics are insufficient.

Accessibility is evaluated throughout development and quality assurance using a combination of manual testing and automated tools. Automated checks include the Silktide Accessibility Checker browser extension, which is used to identify common WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA issues such as color contrast failures, missing alternative text, keyboard navigation issues, and landmark structure. Manual testing is also performed to validate results, particularly for screen reader compatibility and keyboard-only operation.

All technologies are implemented in accordance with W3C specifications and accessibility best practices to ensure compatibility with modern web browsers and assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and alternative input devices.
